On November 27, 1941, in Amigo, West Virginia, the Lord our God brought forth to the loving arms of her parents Virginia and Howard Donald a baby girl whom they named Bessie Irene Donald.
Bessie graduated from Mark Twain High School in Stotesbury, West Virginia where she was a Majorette in the school band. She relocated to New York to join her older sister Geneva and was “adopted” by Anne and Melvin Moncrief.
Bessie grew up in the Church and became an active member of the Elim Church. Bessie joined the Choir and the Usher Board at Elim. Being on the Usher Board was one of her passions. She loved her Church! Elim was Bessie’s home away from home and feeding her Church family was a big part of her life. Bessie never missed a Sunday of fellowship at Elim.
Two other passions in Bessie’s life were her daily conversations with her sister Geneva and, during baseball season, watching the New York Mets. No matter how bad or how well they played, Bessie was a Mets fan! “Let’s go Met’s” – could always be heard coming from Bessie during their season.
Bessie was employed as a Seamstress at Paramount Distributors for a little over 20 years before she became ill. Bessie retired and became a full time Grandmother to her first grandchild Devon.
In Bessie’s last few years of life, she struggled more with each passing day, before being called by the Lord our God to Heaven on December 11, 2019.
