Owosso, MI – Bessie Katherine BK Dryer, age 86, of Dearborn, MI passed away Thursday , June 5, 2014 at Oliver Woods Retirement Village in Owosso, MI, where she had resided for the past 6 was born at home in Everson, PA, on January 8, 1928 to Frank and Clara(Allen)Bentz. After the death of her mother, she was adopted by her Aunt Hettie and Uncle Grover Stone. Upon their passing, she was raised by Aunt Myrtle and Uncle Floyd LaPorte in Trotter, PA. BK graduated from Dunbar Twp. Schools, then attended West Penn Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. After graduation, she remained at West Penn Hospital as a Registered Nurse. There, she met her future husband, Harry Thomas Dryer, of Baldwin, PA on a blind date, and the two were married in 1949. BK and Harry lived in the Pittsburgh area until 1957, when they moved to Dearborn, Michigan. After 15 years as a homemaker and full-time mother, BK returned to the classroom at Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn to renew her nursing education. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn for almost 20 years. She was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Dearborn for almost 55 years. BK and Harry loved to travel, and visited all of the lower 48 states, Hawaii, Australia and Europe. After retirement, BK was active in both the Dearborn Senior Golf and Bowling Leagues. In 2013, after a serious fall, BK moved to Oliver Woods Retirement Village in Owosso, MI, near her eldest is survived by two sons, Harry Thomas (Nancy) Dryer Jr. of Owosso, MI and Mark Daniel (Nancy)Dryer of Ishpeming, MI. ; four grandchildren: Bryan (Mackenzie) Dryer, Rachel (Todd) Brasher, Matthew Dryer and Rebecca (Robert) Wotring; and four great-grandchildren: Lauren Brasher, Andrew Brasher, Abigail Dryer and Lucas Wotring. BK was predeceased by her parents, her son Timothy Allen, her husband Harry, and her sister Betty (LaPorte) Lynn.
