Bessie was born on a farm in Ness City, Kansas. January 28,1922.
Her parents were Don Henry Hogsett and Emma Gladys Gillett Hogsett. Bessie spent her childhood on the farm in Ness City, Kansas. Bessie finished the eighth grade of school in Shallow Water in Scott County Kansas. She then stayed home taking care of her younger brothers and sisters. She was the third oldest of ten. She spent time cooking and sewing. She didn’t like taking care of the farm animals.
At age 18 she moved to Colorado to live with her older sister Stella on Laveta Pass. She then moved to Alamosa with her sister and brother-in-law and worked for a family that lived there.
She then moved back to Dodge City, Kansas where she met her husband, Willard Earl Crego and would eventually marry on November 27,1943 in Cimarron, Kansas. Three children were born in Alamosa, Colorado, two children were born in Dodge City, Kansas and the youngest child was born in Denver, Colorado. Bessie and Willard moved to Palmer Lake, Colorado in 1955 where they spent most of there 53 years of marriage. Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, Loren, Melvin, Leonard and Chester, three sisters, Stella, Martha and Beulah, one son, Herbert and her husband Willard. Surviving are two sisters, Ada of Florida and Donna of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Also surviving are three daughters, Geraldine (Jerri) (husband Ron Knoll), Ilene Fryer and Mary Lipton of Colorado Springs, Co. and two sons, Gary Crego and his wife Karen of Fowler, Co. and Brian Crego and his wife Gretha of Pueblo, Co. and many nieces and nephews and grandchildren and great grandchildren.
