Bess Laney Hallam passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 in a Meridian, Idaho hospital following a brief illness. She was born July 7, 1919 in Park City, Utah to Isaac Clifton Laney and Holly Fern Warr. She is the eldest of 10 children born to this union.
Their early years together were spent in Marion, Utah, where Waldo farmed and milked cows for others. They moved to Emmett, Idaho in 1942 and began farming with her father on the Emmett bench. They moved to Ontario, Oregon in 1948 for a year and then returned to Emmett and purchased a farm on East Idaho Blvd. in 1949.
She enjoyed reading, sewing and camping. She raised a garden each year and enjoyed sharing it with family, friends and neighbors.
She and Waldo raised their six children on this farm, and many of their children’s friends were always welcome to come for a meal or a bed. She was generous with all she had and enjoyed sharing it with others.
Waldo passed away on May 9, 2004 and Bess remained on the farm until she reached an age where she could no longer live alone. In June of 2015 she moved in with her eldest daughter, Jerrilyn (Jerri) Waite, in Meridian, Idaho so she could be closer to family. She was able to remain active and take care of herself while in Meridian. She made friends easily where ever she lived and had many friends in Emmett and Meridian.
She is survived by her brother, Clifton (Ilene) Laney of Orem, Utah; and a sister, Margaret Feik of Nyssa, Oregon; a brother-in law, Lyle Campbell; and a sister-in-law, Velma Laney of Boise.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 8 of her siblings, her husband, her son, Robert Hallam, one grandchild and one great grandchild.
