Bertrice Afton Allen Maucotel was born on February 4, 1918 in Labelle, Idaho to Ellen Marie Nilsen and James Cyrus Allen, the fifth of six children. She peacefully passed away at her daughter Sue’s home on July 15, 2015 in Caldwell, Idaho. She was 97 years old.
Afton grew up on the family farm in Labelle and later in Hyrum, Utah. After Afton received her education in Hyrum, she worked as a switchboard operator at Douglas Aircraft Company in southern California during World War II, where she met the love of her life, Joseph A. Maucotel. They were married in California on October 25, 1947.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her husband of 60 years. She leaves behind four children, Michele (Ronald) Taylor of Eagle, Idaho; Steven (Joyce) Maucotel of Moab, Utah; Susan (Steven) Meyers, of Caldwell, Idaho; and Mark (Audrey) Maucotel, of Kent, Washington; plus 16 beloved grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Afton’s family extends their gratitude to the many friends and Legacy Hospice who provided loving care throughout her declining years. Thank you to all who brought joy and comfort into her life.
