Bertha T. (Bazar) Bak, 95, of New Britain, passed away on Sunday morning, September 15, 2013, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family and caregiver. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph “Lefty” Bak. Born on Nov. 26, 1917, daughter of the late Roman and Albina (Zakowski) Bazar, she was a lifelong New Britain resident. Bertha worked as a nurse’s attendant at New Britain General Hospital for several years, and retired from Fafnir Bearing Co., New Britain, after 32 years of employment. She was a member of Holy Cross Church and a member and officer of its Rosary Society. For many years she volunteered in the kitchen making pierogis for the Holy Cross Annual Bazaar. She was a member of the Council of Catholic Women, and volunteered at Monsignor Bojnowski Manor for over 20 years. Bertha enjoyed life, and her time spent at the beach, especially Westbrook. She loved visiting the casino and playing Bingo with family and friends, and always looked forward to “taking a ride” with her family. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she leaves her daughter and son-in-law Beatrice and Robert “Sam” Carrubba, son and daughter-in-law Joseph and Kathryn Bak, and son-in-law Gary Jakubowicz, all of Southington; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. She also leaves a brother Lucian Bazar of PA, sister Mary Krol of Rocky Hill, sister-in-law Edith Bazar of East Hampton; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by dear friends, especially her devoted friends Jean, who was her childhood friend, and Stephanie and Rose. She was predeceased by her daughter Kathleen (Bak) Jakubowicz, a brother Edward Bazar, and a sister Helen Bazar. Her family is grateful for the care and love given by her caregiver Maggi and her family.
