Like the bright and warm sun after a cold and stormy week, Bertha Mae Cazier Mangum, 92, was relieved of her earthly struggles and found peaceful rest as she passed from this earthly life on Sunday morning, May 24, 2020 at Quinn Meadows Rehabilitation and Care Center.
Bertha was born August 27, 1927 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to George and Emily Cazier. She was the oldest of four children, with two sisters and a brother. When she was only 11, her mother was left to raise the children alone. Having to go to work to support them, much of the daily care of her siblings rested upon Bertha’s shoulders.
Shortly after, while performing in an Easter program together, she became acquainted with Lester Joseph Mangum and began a sweet courtship that resulted in marriage on January 30, 1943. Soon after their marriage, Lester was drafted into the Army and served in WWII, stationed in Iceland where he served until the war ended in 1945. During that time, Bertha gave birth to their first son, Lester Joseph, Jr. (Joedy). On December 28, 1944, when Lester was home on leave, they were sealed as a family for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. When Lester returned home for good, they started building their life together in St. Anthony, Idaho. While living there, their daughter Linda Jean was born in Idaho Falls. In 1950, they moved to Casper, Wyoming where their third child, Scott Lamar was born. They later lived in Rawlins, and then made a big move to Redding, California where they finished raising their children. Later moves took them to Pacifica, Fresno, and Orangevale, California and then to Pocatello, Idaho. Everywhere they went, Bertha treasured her neighbors and friends.
