Services for Ms.

Mother Bertha Mae Cooper was born May 4, 1940, to the late Olivia Cooper.  She was predeceased in death by one infant daughter, Shirley Cooper, one brother Richard Mason and one sister Sadie Mae Newman.  Mother Cooper was a productive employee at Wayne Farms in Decatur, Alabama.  After working there for 25 years, she retired in 2002.  September 02, 2022, Mother Cooper departed this earthly life peacefully at her residence.  She was 82 years old.

Mother Cooper accepted Christ as her personal Saviour early in life.  She was a faithful member of Grace Tabernacle Church, Courtland, Alabama for many years.  Later in life, Mother Cooper joined and became a dedicated member of Living Hope Church of God in Christ in Decatur, Alabama.  She was a respected church mother who faithfully and joyfully served in many capacities suchas; Sunday school teacher, devotional service leader, Bible study teacher and church treasurer.  Mother Cooper was an incredibly strong, God fearing, prayer warrior.   She leaves a legacy to her family of God’s amazing love and grace.

Mother Cooper enjoyed spending time with, and cooking for her family.  Every Sunday morning, for many years, she would rise early to prepare breakfast for her children, grand-children, and anyone else who stopped by.  She was also known for her delicious soul food meals, especially during the holidays.  Her sweet potato pies and collard green were always enjoyed and requested by many.

As the Matriarch of the family, Mother Cooper loved, supported, and shared her wisdom unconditionally.  She helped raised three generations of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  An inspiration to many, she was referred to as Sister, Mama, Grandmother, Granny-Granny, and Alma.  Mother Cooper possessed a smile and entertaining sense of humor which she often used to gain information {Be Nosey}.  She was known to say, “If you don’t ask you won’t know.”  She wanted to know.

Sister Bertha leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Christine Cooper, Decatur, AL, Karen (Curtis) Foster, Hillsboro, AL.  six sons:  Charles (Gwendolyn), Cooper, Preston (Loretta) Cooper, Darry (Dae’Lataice) Madden, John (Jehn) Cooper, Orrin (Rosa) Cooper, all of Decatur, AL.  Richard Cooper, Athens, AL.  and for many years a special, close friend, Sylvia Morris.  Mother Cooper also held a special bond with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends; especially two devoted grandsons: Tryis and Alverice Cooper.
