Bertha I. Ackerman, 83 years, of Virginia, IL died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, IL.
She was born September 6, 1924 in Wood River, IL; the daughter of John and Suzie Sherman Hogle. She married Elmer E. Ackerman on May 3, 1941 in St. Charles, MO and he preceded in death on February 21, 1994.
She is survived by three sons, Ken Ackerman (wife, Della), Jim Ackerman (wife, Nancy), and Mark Ackerman (wife, JoAnn), all of Virginia; a daughter, Karen Sue Ackerman of Virginia; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, John Ackerman (surviving wife, Cindy of Chandlerville) and several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Ackerman was an active prayer warrior for New City Church and WTJR Television. She provided home care services for the elderly in the Virginia area. She was an active volunteer with the Virginia BBQ and other community activities. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, sewing, and baking. She valued her family, friends, and neighbors and was well known for her words of encouragement and her affectionate hugs.
