Bert Ray Ekart, 76 of Caldwell, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at home with his wife and daughters by his side.
Bert was born February 17, 1934 near Marsing to Ralph and Cecilia Ekart. He and his seven siblings were raised and educated in the Sunny Slope area. Bert cared deeply about his country and what America stands for and was very disappointed when his enlistment to the US Navy was denied due to medical reasons.
Bert married Wilma Heckathorn on September 27th, 1952 in Winnemucca, Nevada. With this union came four children, Roxanne Campbell, Sharon (Ron) Taylor, Robert (Lori) and Rodney (Debby), eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. They were married for almost 53 years before Wilma passed away. Bert later married Thelma Carpenter.
Bert worked at United Iron before becoming a partner of BID Salvage. He later formed United Metal & Scrap in 1972 and United Hauling, Corp. in 1978. Bert believed in giving back and supporting his community and was a long-time sponsor of girl’s and woman’s softball. He loved camping, fishing & hunting with his family and restoring old cars.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Judy and Mo of Legacy Hospice, and a special thank-you to Connie Sparks.
