Bernita May Grissom, 84, of Jacksonville, IL died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
She was born July 8, 1926 in Jacksonville; the daughter of Walter and Bertha Tankersley Busey. She married Herbert Mattson and they later divorced. She married William Grissom and he preceded her in death in December of 1985. She later enjoyed a long term companionship with Jean Simmons who preceded her in death in October of 2005.
She is survived by three sons, Gary Mattson (wife, Barb) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Guy Mattson (wife, Joan) of Manito, and David Mattson (wife, Cyndi) of Poynette, WI; a daughter, Gayle Pollock (companion, Bill Clark) of Alexander; two step children, Donna Cook (husband, Dennis) of West Plains, MO and Dianna Siegler (husband, Mark) of Jacksonville; 12 grandchildren, Lisa Pedracine (husband, Jay), Christopher Mattson, Ryan Mattson, Tara Brue (husband, Danny), Candace Mattson, Todd Caton (wife, Theresa), Chad Caton, Amy Mattson, Scott Mattson, Sarah Van Aken (husband, Ryan), Mary Watts (husband, Brian), and Hank Pollock; 15 great grandchildren; a brother, Donald Busey of Carson City, NV; a sister, Esta Manker of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Busey; a brother, Gerald Busey; two sisters-in-law, Norma Busey and Mary Jo Busey; and a brother-in-law, Marshall Manker.
Mrs. Grissom was a graduate of Jacksonville High School.
