Bernita Darlene Likes, 77, of Jacksonville and formerly of Bluffs, was called to her eternal home on Saturday morning, October 4, 2008, at her residence.
She was born November 8, 1930, on her parents farm near Bluffs, the daughter of Elba Earl and Laura Vortman Rahe. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Neelyville in 1944. She married James Danny Ray Likes on March 6, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church, and he preceded her in death on July 15, 2005, after 56 years of marriage.
Mrs. Likes is survived by two daughters, Brenda (husband Byron, Jr.) Berry of Carrollton and Judy (husband John III) Thousand of Highlands Ranch, CO.; four grandchildren, Matthew and Nadia Berry of Carrollton and John Thousand IV and Daniel Thousand of Highlands Ranch, CO; and a sister, Velma Louise Daub of Jacksonville.
Mrs. Likes was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Neelyville, and was currently a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jacksonville. She graduated from Bluffs High School in 1948, and completed her course of study at Gem City Business College in Quincy. She was an active partner in managing and operating the family farm along with her husband. Mrs. Likes was an excellent seamstress and cook. She was a very caring person, and was dedicated to her family.
