Bernice passed from this earthly life in Canon City, CO at the age of 94 into her forever home with Jesus on August 21, 2022. She was born December 31, 1927 in La Junta, CO to Robert and Esther Wilson. She married her high school sweetheart, James (Jim) Whitaker, who worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and carried her off to Amarillo, TX. She was a homemaker who was skilled in sewing, knitting and she loved her family. For several years she worked for the Salvation Army as a bookkeeper, also volunteering at the annual Angel Tree at Christmas time and retired to enjoy traveling and camping with their fifth wheel trailer.
Bernice is survived by son, Thomas (Susan) Whitaker of South Fork, CO; daughter, Jamie (Les) Becksted of Canon City, CO; son, Robert Whitaker of Amarillo, TX; 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim.
