LAKEWOOD – Bernice Schaefer, age 100, died at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at her home. She was born February 9, 1918 in Greenford, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Carrie (Edler) Schaefer.
Bernice was a graduate of Greenford High School and Kent State University. She did her graduate work at Northwestern University and Western Reserve. She retired from teaching after 26 years in the Cleveland School District. Bernice taught at Alliance, Youngstown and Lakewood schools. She lived in Lakewood over 50 years.
Bernice was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church and the National Teacher’s Organization. She absolutely loved to travel.
Survivors include three nieces, Jan Bizzi, Marilyn (Bill) Walk and Nancy (Keith) Gayer; nine great nieces and nephews; 13 great great nieces and nephews and seven great great great nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death was a sister, Mary Houts; two brothers, Howard Schaefer and Earl Schaefer; and a nephew, Richard Houts.
