Bernice Petrillo Kaercher of West Haven passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the Hospital of St. Raphael surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Frederick Kaercher for 53 happy years. Bernice was born in New Haven to the late Joseph and Camille Petrillo on January 6, 1927. She was the beloved sister of Lorraine Burns and brother-in-law of the late William Burns of East Haven and the late brothers, Joseph, Robert and Thomas Petrillo, sisters-in-law Ann Petrillo of North Haven and Fern Petrillo of Nevada, the late Eleanor Petrillo and brother-in-law Walter Kaercher (Phyllis) of North Haven. She leaves her adored nieces: Diane Higgins (Peter), Susan Weymann (Paul), Cindy Petrillo (Peter Gootjes), Catherine Petrillo and Dianna Saracino (Ronald) and nephews: William Burns (Cheryl), Joseph, Peter, Bob, Christopher, Michael, David (Liz) Petrillo and Walter Kaercher Jr. (Kori). She also leaves several great nieces and nephews. Before her retirement, she was the Director of the Senior Center in Westville where she led a vibrant and popular program. In her early years she worked as a legal secretary and served as President of the Legal Secretaries Association. She was very active in her community and served on many Boards of Director including: Friends of the Library, West Haven Community House, West Haven Historical Society, St. Theresa’s Ladies Guild of St.
