Bernice “Lynn” Dunlap Swanagan, 80, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2016 in Franklin, Indiana while under the care of Gentiva Hospice.

Lynn was born on April 2, 1936 to Lloyd W. Dunlap and Imogene Perkins Dunlap in Flint, Michigan.

Lynn spent her formative years in Detroit, Michigan. She was a natural athlete who lettered in field hockey, basketball, and tennis at Western High School before graduating in 1954.

Lynn continued her education at Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1958. In 1975, she earned an Early Childhood Education Specialist Certificate from Central Michigan University.

Lynn was dedicated to her family, community, and church. In the addition to being a single parent to four daughters, Lynn contributed to the lives of many children by teaching school for 35 ½ years. The majority of her tenure was spent in the second grade at S.M. Glaza Elementary, Millington Community Schools. A  true disciple, Lynn was a long-standing member of the Millington Baptist Church, where she served as a Trustee and Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of the Michigan Education Association, National Education Association, Kappa Delta Sorority, and a former member of the Millington Township Library Board and Millington Women’s Club. During her lifetime, she enjoyed singing in the Millington Mills and Sounds of Harmony barbershop choruses, camping,  traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Her passing will be mourned by her siblings, Laura (Douglas) Hubbell of Evansville, Indiana and Lloyd W. Dunlap, Jr. of Willowbrook, Illinois; her daughters, Beth (Douglas) Harris of Guelph, Ontario, Canada; Melissa (Donald) Miller of Greensburg, Indiana; Gena (Steven) Swanagan Frazer of Franklin, Indiana; and Susanna (Dane Bjerklie) Swanagan of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Lynn (Ian) Passmore, Daniel (Caitlin) Harris, Elizabeth Harris, David Ferry, Justin Ferry, Jeremy Frazer, Olivia Frazer,Thor Bjerklie, Eisa Bjerklie, and Croft Bjerklie; great – granddaughter, Ivy Passmore; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Imogene; granddaughter, Jessica Frazer; and dearest friend, Janice Wideman.
