Bernice Eleanor Wilson was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Holly Springs, Miss., the oldest daughter of Henry and Ethel Lee (Hart) Wilson.

In 1941, the family relocated to Chicago, where she later met and married Thomas George Wimberly.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior under the ministry of Pastor Willie E. Gordon at the Church of God in Chicago. After moving to Indiana in 2006, she and Thomas joined the United Church of God under Pastors Vernon Hargrove and Sean Cortelyou and attended Heaven Serenity Outreach under Pastors Craig and Remona McKenzie.

Thomas, being a career Marine, moved his family to Virginia, Hawaii, California and North Carolina. They settled in Chicago and later moved to Elkhart. Bernice’s various ministries included home Bible studies, publishing a church and a Block Club newsletter, church secretary and holding Bible classes for her younger children and their friends. Bernice also enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, crossword puzzles, writing poetry and music.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her only sister, Vera Mae Clark; and by her son, Michael Andrew Wimberly.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas, of 63 years; her four surviving children, Dena Hall, Janet Henderson, Mark (Lisa) Wimberly and Karen Murry; 12 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Bernice was greatly loved and will never be forgotten.
