Bernardo A. Salazar of White Plains, NY, was born in Sevilla, Colombia on January 4th, 1936. He was the loving son of Maria D. Bedoya and Felix E. Salazar. Bernardo was the brother of Pedro, J.R, and Woody, who live in the area, while his sister Rosalba resides in Colombia.

During the mid 1950’s to 1960, Bernardo enrolled as a soldier in the Colombian army. He took pride in his military endeavors, as years after he precisely framed his memorable pictures of this time. In 1965, Bernardo married his childhood love, Ruby. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past year. Bernardo and Ruby shared a romance story only seen in novels.

Shortly after their marriage, their first child Norella was born and in 1970 Bernardo relocated to the Unites States. His dream was to provide a better life for his family, which was a goal he was able to fulfill. A few years after, Bernardo and Ruby welcomed their second child, Hamilton.

Bernardo was a hard worker, dedicated to his 25 years of employment at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Westchester Division. Where he retired from in 1995. He was a family orientated man, mainly spending the time after his retirement enjoying his family and his only granddaughter, Briana.

Bernardo was a serious man who spoke few words. However, he possessed a heart filled with love. Once you knew Bernardo he shared his love, humor, and charisma with the one’s around him. On May 7, 2016, at the age of 80, Bernardo entered God’s kingdom. Bernardo is survived by his devoted wife, children, siblings, his only granddaughter, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
