Bernard Richard Jarvis, 90, of Winchester, IL died Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Scott County Nursing Center in Winchester where he had resided for several years.
He was born October 22, 1920 in Oxville, IL; the eldest son of Theodore “Ted” and Mary (Baird) Jarvis. He lived his entire life in central Illinois. His love for farming was evident by the many years and long hours he devoted to his employers. He worked on the Scott County farms of Westermeyer, Albers and Miller before moving to Morgan County in 1956 to work on the Lester/Marvin Martin farm. Bernard retired from farming in 1990.
On March 20, 1941, Bernard married Cora Evaline Lovell. She preceded him in death on April 9, 1983. He then married Juanita “Teena” (Teaney ) McDade on November 25, 1993 and she survives in Winchester.
Bernard is also survived by a son, Terry Jarvis (wife, Karen) of Brandon, FL; two daughters, Joyce Teaney (husband, Jack) of Mulberry, FL and Nancy Boyer (husband, John) of Leavenworth, KS; a step son, Robin McDade (wife, Kim) of Alsey; nine grandchildren, Tonya Williamson (husband, Ken) of Valrico, FL, Todd Jarvis (wife, Kathy), David Teaney and Jaquette Pope, all of Dover, FL, Toby Gustafson of Tennessee Colony, TX, Matthew Gustafson (wife, Melissa) of Grand Prairie, TX, and Rochelle, Robby and Brittany McDade, all of Alsey; five great grandchildren, Johnathan Serra, Cody and Megan Jarvis, Jayden and Jackson Pope, all of Florida; three brothers, Donald Jarvis (wife, Betty) and Harvey Jarvis (wife, Rosemary), all of Jacksonville and Carl Jarvis (wife, Norla) of Tucson, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson-in-law, J.W. Pope of Florida.
Bernard was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Winchester. He served as a Deacon and Trustee of Bloomfield Baptist Church near Winchester and Westfair Baptist Church in Jacksonville. He also served as Sunday School superintendent at Westfair for 25 years.
