Bernard Paul Ash, 89 of Bridgeport, passed away at the VA Hospital at 4:05 a.m. on June 26, 2018. He was born August 13, 1928, the son of the late Andrew and Sona Maxwell Ash. Bernard is survived by his son, Jeffrey Paul Ash and wife of West Milford; one daughter, Connie Ash Wetzel and her husband of Marshville; one stepdaughter Robin Maditz Jones and husband of NC; one step son, Charles Helms, also of NC; one daughter-in-law, Diana Smith of Bridgeport; a twin sister, Bernice Kimball of Uniontown, OH;   his special friends, Melissa and Mike Riley of Clarksburg and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives Wilma Jo Ash and Shirley Frum Ash; his son, David Ash;  his daughter, Lisa Ash Gaines; his stepson, Joe Helms;  one brother, Donald Ash;  four sisters, Imogene Kyle, Nora Lee Gill, Dottie Helen Ashcraft and Irma Winans. He was a truck driver and worked in the shell room of the Clarksburg Casket Company for more than 20 years. He was a Corporal in the Army and served in the Korean War. Bernard was a long-time volunteer at the VA Hospital. He volunteered more than 3,000 hours over 10 years and received a Voluntary Award for his time. Anytime you came through the main entrance to the hospital you could see Bernard’s smiling face. He loved the VA Hospital and the Veterans that came through there. He loved to spend time helping and talking with all the visitors. He also was a long-time member of the VFW Post 573, Clarksburg.
