Bernard G. Weiss, 85 Poestenkill Bernard G. Weiss, 85, of Snyders Corners Road, died Monday at Fairview Commons Great Barrington, MA after a long illness. Born in Troy, he was son of the late George Conrad and Carrie Hoffman Weiss. He had resided in Poestenkill most of his life and attended a one room schoolhouse on Weatherwax Road. Mr. Weiss was a machinist for the Watervliet Arsenal and later W&LE Gurley retiring 20 years ago. Also, for over 60 years he operated the family farm, Elm Shade Farms in Poestenkill. He was a member of the Sullivan-Jones VFW Post in Poestenkill, the Sgt. Walter Adams American Legion in Averill Park, the Farm Bureau, Rensselaer County Cooperative Extension and a communicant of St. Henry’s Church in Averill Park. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in Normandy and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Survivors include a cousin John F. Holman of Averill Park; a nephew George F. Badgley of Troy and an uncle Conrad Weiss of Defreestville. He was predeceased by two sisters Marie M. Weiss and Helen C. Badgley.
