Bernard Dale Elwood passed away at River’s Edge in Emmett on June 7, 2016. He was born at home on September 6, 1925 in Smith County, Kansas to Roy and Erma Elwood.
He was their third child with an older brother, Warren and older sister, Leona. The family moved to Emmett, Idaho in 1934. There he attended Bramwell and Vanderdasson rural schools. He loved to read animal stories and western comic books. Bernard worked in the packing sheds during fruit harvest for many years and also worked day labor on farms and during sheep shearing season.
He was often seen walking a brisk stride around downtown Emmett where he was frequently greeted by many friendly neighbors. Everybody knew him as “Bernie”. He loved taking a leisurely drive up the canyon and around the valley in his green Volkswagen bug.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents and his sister. He is survived by his brother, Warren, and many nephews and nieces.
