Bernadine died November 11, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Care Center in Norfolk after losing a battle with cancer.
Bernadine was born on August 4, 1934, at Laurel, NE the daughter of Ralph and Mae (Alexander) Kiefer. She was raised at rural Laurel and graduated from Laurel High School in 1952.
Bernadine married Bernard Staib in 1954. They had four children and lived in Madison until they divorced. Bernadine later moved on to marry Jesse Bud Lewis in 1988, making their home in Norfolk the past 27 years.
Bernadine worked several jobs in Madison and Norfolk until complications with her eyesight took over.
Bernadine is survived by her husband of 27 years; her children; Bonnie (Jerry) Schulz, Rural Battle Creek, Bert (Christine) Staib, Evansville, Indiana, Brett (Lisa) Staib, Waipahu, HI, step children; Shelia Lewis, Norfolk, Jerry (Sally) Lewis, Norfolk, Jim (Jane) Lewis, Madison, Shelly (Rick) Adams, Norfolk, John Lewis, Norfolk, Joe (Karla) Lewis, Arpin, Wisconsin, 25 grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters Don Kiefer, Omaha, Elaine (Jake) Van Holland, Modesto, CA, Imogene (Stan) Baier, Wayne, George (Vicky) Kiefer, Fremont, Richard Kiefer, Sunny Side, CA, Mary (Bob) Mclain, Belden, Tim Kiefer, Charleston, SC, and Katherine Kiefer, Tucson, AZ.
Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents, one son Ben Staib (2012), stepdaughter Susan Lewis (2000), two sisters, Lenora and Janet, and one brother John (Jack) Kiefer.
