Berl Eastman Priebe, the son of Clarence and Amy (Bond) Priebe was born on a farm southwest of Lone Rock, Iowa on May 31, 1918. Berl attended country school and graduated from Bancroft High School in 1935. After school Berl helped his father on their family farm near Algona. He met Madelyn Paetz and they were married on August 14, 1938 in Blue Earth, MN. They farmed and became interested in livestock and the Angus cattle business.

Berl believed that the prettiest picture was of Black Cattle on nice green grass. Berl became president of the Iowa Angus Association and Madelyn was president of the American Angus Auxiliary. They showed Angus cattle all over the U.S. In 1968 Berl was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives. He was then elected and served as an Iowa Senator for 24 years. Berl and Madelyn had three children, Constance, Paula and Gary. Gary and his son, Brad, farm some of the land that Madelyn’s grandfather acquired in 1893. Berl was very active in 4H and received the 4H Hall of Fame Award. With Berl, his family was always at the top of his list.

Berl is survived by his children, Paula Priebe Dixon of Indian Head Park, IL and Gary (Jennifer) Priebe of Algona; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren; and many friends he felt he was fortunate to have. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Madelyn in 2010; a daughter Connie; a great great granddaughter, Amari; and a brother, Clyde.
