Beresford “Barry” L. Quigg, age 75 of Highland, IN, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Hobart on Friday, May 27, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.
Barry was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Paula M. Quigg. He is survived by three children: Stacie (Bryan) Nourse of Fishers, IN; Jason (Courtney) Quigg of Hobart, IN; and Stephanie (Gary) Smith of Fishers, IN; three grandchildren: Caden Quigg; Madeline and Grant Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
Barry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach and friend to many. He loved his wife and family more than anything in the world. An avid sports fan, his precious Cubbies rivaled a close second! He was quick with a joke and the life of the party. His smile and laugh will not soon be forgotten.
Barry was a special education teacher for over 25 years at Hammond Technical High School and Bloom Trail High School (IL). He coached varsity, junior varsity and freshmen levels of baseball, basketball and other sports. He also spent a good portion of every summer coaching a generation of kids in Highland Little League.
This is of no surprise as Barry was a tremendous athlete excelling on the baseball field in high school and college. He played in the NAIA College World Series and is a member of the 2013 class of the Hammond Sports Hall of Fame.
Barry graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Missouri Valley College in 1968, and later completed his Master’s of Arts degree from Indiana State University.
