Benny Lorenzo Scott, a native and resident of the Walker Springs community, better known to family and friends as “Mutt,” was born on Jan. 25, 1955 to Nettie Grey Pritchett Scott and Granville Scott Jr. Benny departed this life for eternity on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, around 6:10 p.m., while at Choctaw Health and Rehab Facility in Butler. Benny was surrounded by his two sisters, two brothers-in-law and two nieces.
Early in life, Benny joined the Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. A graduate of Jackson High School in the Class of 1972, following graduation he enlisted in the Army. He was stationed in Germany and following the completion of his time in Army, Benny enlisted in the Alabama National Guard. While in the Guard, he served in Desert Storm and Iraq.
Benny was employed at Teledyne for a few years after finishing with the military. He loved his job, and was a very loving, caring and giving person. He especially loved to give to his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Gregory Scott; sister, Ollie Lee Scott; his grandparents, Adella and Tommie Pritchett, and Creole Scott.
Left to cherish his memories are five brothers, Henry (Mary) Scott of Inglewood, Calif., Joe, Paul Scott and Tommie Lee (Billie) Scott, all of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Vada (Roy) Johnson of Eight Mile and Vera (Allen Jr.) Williams of Jackson; two uncles, Theodore (Mary Ann) Pritchett of Walker Springs and Cleon (Monica) Pritchett of Woodbridge, Va.; aunt, Rosie Pritchett of Gainestown; with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
