Benjamin J. Habeger, 82 of West Bend died Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Ben Habeger, the son of Ernie and Elizabeth (Ruger) Habeger was born October 12, 1936 in West Bend where he was raised and received his education, graduating from the West Bend High School in 1954. He then served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. After his time in the service he attended the University of Nebraska, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He then worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Omaha, Nebraska for 10 years. Ben farmed in Fall City Nebraska before returning to the West Bend area in 1976, continuing to farm. He was united in marriage to Carol Fritz and to this union their children were born: Toni (Dan) Voss of Lees Summit, Missouri, Robin (Joe) Greubel of Lucas, Iowa, Jill (Dustin) Madline of Rochester, Minnesota, and Alex (Lariena Armstrong) of Austin, Texas. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren; sisters Juanita Anliker and Rachel Montag and fiance Marlene Larson. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ben was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He worked for some time at IBM, ISU Extention Service and as an advisor at the West Bend Elevator Company. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Algona. He enjoyed dancing, being apart of the Roadrunners Dance Club.
