Benjamin R. “Benny” Gonzales, 82, of Silver City passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 surrounded by loved ones.
Benjamin was born on October 19, 1939 to Rosalio and Theodora Gonzales in Ruth, Nevada.
Before retiring, Benjamin was employed at Chino Mines in Santa Rita, New Mexico, where he worked as a mechanic for 30 years. He had been active in Copper Little League of Bayard during the ‘70’s, eventually serving as President and establishing the Girls’ Softball program.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rosalio and Theodora Gonzales, seven brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Linda Gonzales; daughter, Patty Ortiz and her sons, Eli and Tyler Ortiz; son, Steve Gonzales (Cecilia) and their daughters, Marcella, Gabriella, and Ariella Gonzales; son, Benny Ray Gonzales and his children, Paul Gonzales, Valerie Wacondo (Vern), Jennifer Powell (Tyson), and Christina Gonzales; step-son, Tommy Alcorta; sister, Virginia Kitchens (Bill); sister-in-law, Gloria Montoya (Bennie); four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
