Ben Allen Rankin, 55, of Alum Creek, West Virginia, formerly of Morehead, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia.

 

Born December 29, 1965, in Lexington, he was a son of the late Raymond C. Rankin and Faye Iona Campbell Rankin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Michael Edward Rankin.

 

Ben is survived by two daughters, Erica (Aaron) Elliott of Elsmere, Kentucky, and Katherine Jean Denney of Knoxville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Colton Parish, Kaden Elliott, and Kinsley Elliott; and his companion of 7 years, Crissy Owen of Alum Creek, West Virginia.

 

Other survivors include three brothers, Ray Rankin of Postville, Iowa, Dan Rankin of Janesville, Wisconsin, and Henry Rankin of Castalia, Iowa; two sisters, Penny Parks of Winchester, Kentucky, and Darlene Fels of Hawkeye, Iowa; special cousin, Joe Campell; step mother, Rita Rankin of Iowa; Crissy’s parents whom he considered his own, Claybourne “Pappy” and Martha Runion of West Virginia; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. He also leaves behind “Pepper,” his Chihuahua, whom he adored.

 

Ben was a self-employed carpenter and owner of Rankin Moving Company. He was the former manager of Cave Run Lodge from June 2015 until March 2021 and previously owned Rankin Express Trucking Company. Ben enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR and NFL football, and was a Green Bay Packers fan.
