Belva M. Waithman, age 94, of Salem, a resident of Winona most of her life, died at 1:35 P.M. on Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Grace Woods Assisted Living in Salem. She was born May 12, 1918 in Winona, a daughter of the late James and Ethel (Walton) Holmes. She was a 1937 graduate of Salem High School and active member of the Winona United Methodist Church. Mrs. Waithman had worked at the former Fiesta Shop in Salem from 1956 to 1970, and had previously worked for the American Laundry. Belva was a member of the American Needlework Guild, W.C.T.U., leader of the L.T.L., charter member of the Beta Theta Sorority, member of the former Mizpah Sunday School Class, member of the former Guilford Grange and charter member the Winona/Butler Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Her husband, Paul Waithman, whom she married August 5, 1939, preceded her in death on January 27, 1997. Three sisters, Viola Dustman, Gladys John and Elma Shanker; and a brother, Walter Holmes also preceded her in death. Survivors include three daughters, Susan Horgan of Andover, MA, Paula (William) Taylor of Leetonia and Bonita (Donald) Conser of Hanoverton; 9 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
