BELEN R. BARRIO, 86, lifelong Deming resident passed away Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Arroyo Vista Senior Living Center in Deming.
Belen was born May 12, 1925 in Deming to Francisco and Trinida (Vargas) Reyes. She had worked at Donaldson’s for several years and from there she worked at Wheeler Shoe Store for over 20 years. Afterwards, Belen became employed as a housekeeper for several local families. She was an avid Deming Wildcat fan and enjoyed supporting her teams by praying the Rosary in every sport at every game she could attend. Belen was very dedicated to St. Ann’s Catholic Church and especially loved being with her family and grandchildren. Peppers Supermarket was her home away from home, for she loved to shop and spend time there.
She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Verdugo and her husband Benny of Deming; sons, Francisco, Richard and Reynaldo Barrio all of Deming; 5 grandchildren, Ricky (Arlie) Barrio, Stephanie (Luz) Ortiz, Jacob (Sara) Barrio, Micah Barrio and Bernadette Quintero; 11 great grandchildren, Josiah, Zoey & Zane Barrio, Esteban & Tiffany Gonzales, Orlando Ortiz, Logan Barrio, Aliyah Reyes, Hannah, Savannah, & Makennah Aguirre; special nephews, Gilbert Juarez & Jimmy Ortiz; and special nieces, Sally Gonzales, Lucy Reyes, Gloria Payan, Frances White, Terry White, Olivia Calanchi, Margaret Barrio, Irene Cortez Avalos, Irene, Isabel, Dini Juarez, Sally Ann Montaño, Denise & Melissa Renteria. Belen had many friends but was especially close to Angie Villegas, Polly Casillas, Cecilia Benavidez, Lucia Montoya & Ely Duras.
Belen was preceded in death by her husband, Placido Barrio; 1 son, Reynaldo Barrio; 1 grandson, Francisco “Panchito” Barrio; 1 great great granddaughter, Alexia Nevaeh Gonzales; a brother, Salvador Reyes and a half brother, Manuel Cortez.
