Beatriz Montalvo Cortez, age 81, of Harlingen, Texas went to be with our Lord peacefully on March 7, 2017.
She was born April 11, 1935 in San Benito, Texas to Fausto & Hilaria Montalvo. Beatriz was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Nelda, Melba, & Enriqueta, and brothers Fausto Jr., Alfredo, Billy, and Ruben.
Beatriz was a graduate of San Benito High School who worked diligently at her jobs in the education and medical fields. She most enjoyed working with special needs students. Beatriz was a very outgoing, energetic, and independent woman. She was a proud member of the Greyhound Class of 1955 and enjoyed reuniting with her classmates annually. She was a devout Catholic and dedicated many years to the choir, nursing home, and pro-life ministries.
She will be dearly missed by Daughters Cristela Wise (David) & Carmen Tello (Gil); Sons Carlos, Cesar, and Cristobal Cortez (Veronica); Brothers Robert (Enedelia), Gustavo (Angie), & Raul Montalvo; Grandchildren Valree Cortez, David Antonio Wise (Julia), Sarah Tello, Marisa Cortez, Leah Wise, Carlos Cortez Jr., Veronica Cortez, Joseph Tello, Daniel Cortez, Mark Cortez, Sarah Cortez, & step grandchildren Maria & Jose Cortez; Great-grandsons Rudy Martinez Jr., & Michael Garcia, & numerous nieces and nephews.
Beatriz dedicated her Saturday mornings to praying for the unborn with her pro-life church family for many years. Beatriz was also dedicated to learning sign language and advocating for the hearing impaired community. After her retirement from South Texas High School, she became a “Head Start Grandmother” teaching and reading to 3 year olds.
