Beatrice “Jean” (Plum) Crawford, age 91, of DeMotte, IN passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2017 at her home. She was born June 3, 1926 in Crete, IL to John and Elsie (Johnson) Plum, both deceased. On November 13, 1948 Jean married James “Jim” Crawford who preceded her in death in May 2011. She loved her role as a homemaker and also worked as a bookkeeper prior to starting a family. She was a long-time member of Glenwood Bible Church in Glenwood, IL, then Faith Bible Alliance Church in Deltona, FL, and finally DeMotte United Methodist Church.
At different times in her life, Jean sang in the church choir, was active in the various ladies’ circles, taught Sunday school, was a Deaconess, and served on various church mission committees, and was also a proud member of the DAR. Jean’s greatest joy was her family-being a wife, mom, and grandma. She was an avid reader and an author of five historical fiction stories. She loved crocheting, knitting, sewing, quilting, and weaving baskets. Her kind heart and sweet spirit were evident to anyone in her presence and she will be greatly missed.
Jean is survived by her loving children: Jim (Toni) Crawford of Sebring, FL; Nanci Crawford of DeMotte, IN; Linda (Steve) Dohl of Culpepper, VA; and Donna (Tim) Bult of Hebron, IN. She also leaves behind 7 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 10 great-grandsons, 8 great-granddaughters, and a sister, Louise Plum Kraft, sister-in-law, Pearl Lockeman, 3 nieces and 6 nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Robert; sister, Nancy; and two nephews, Freddy and Randy Lockeman.
