Beatrice Estelle Wingfield Adkins, 89, of Martinsville, VA died Friday, February 12, 2010 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville/Henry County. She was born on June 17, 1920 in Franklin County, VA to the late William Webster Wingfield and Pearl Rakes Wingfield. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Christian Adkins; four sisters, Virginia Frith, Arbutis Wingfield, Janice Gregory and Carolyn Hallam and two brothers, Vernon Wingfield and Bernice Wingfield. Mrs. Adkins retired from E. I. DuPont, Inc. as a machine operator and then worked for Tultex Outlet as a clerk. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Karen A. Lackey and Alan Lackey of Martinsville, VA; two sisters, Christine W. Gregory of Martinsville, VA and Dorothy W. Turner of Minnesota; two brothers, Carl Wingfield of Collinsville, VA and Robert Wingfield of Chesapeake, VA; two grandsons, Robert Lackey and his wife, Janine Lackey of Martinsville, VA and Paul Lackey and his wife, Celeste Lackey of Greensboro, NC; one great-granddaughter, Gracie Lackey and numerous nieces and nephews.
