Barry William LeJeuneNovember 24, 1952 – October 27, 2018Barry LeJeune of Winchester, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 27, 2018 after a patient struggle with brain cancer. Barry is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Leona LeJeune; their three children, Jessica (LeJeune) Wilcox and her husband Dan; Russell LeJeune and his wife Jill; Michael LeJeune and his sweetheart, Jessica Szafran; and five grandsons – Ian, Ryan, Dylan, Nathan, and baby Brendan. Barry was one of nine siblings born to the late Alexander J. LeJeune and Louvima LeJeune. He is survived by his mother “Vima”, one brother, David and his wife Leslie; six sisters and their spouses, Sharon Hamilton and her husband Steve; twin sister Gerry Norene and her husband Larry; Susan LeJeune and her husband Neil Richard; Carol Parent and her husband Paul; Vicki Hester and her husband Jim; Joan Virga and her husband Joe; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, their spouses and children. He was predeceased by his father “Alex”, his brother Arlan and his nephew Joshua LeJeune.Barry graduated from The Gilbert School, Winsted, where he loved the glory days of running track and playing football with lifelong friends Anthony, Gary, Barney, Leo, and a team full of best friends. Barry was a Vietnam Era veteran serving in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1972-1975. He returned to earn his undergraduate degree in Medical Technology from the University of Hartford and later in life went on to become a Physicians Assistant earning his degree at Albany Med.Barry was born in Torrington, CT but lived most of his life in Winchester. He endeared himself to many within the community, beginning his career at the Winsted Memorial Hospital, where he worked until it closed in 1996. He continued on at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and Bristol Hospital, working the last 17 years at the Sharon Hospital Emergency Department. His talent and wit are remembered with smiles by his beloved colleagues. He served as President of the Winchester Land Trust for many years and loved entering his garden veggies at the Winchester Grange Fair each year in fun competition with his sisters. He was an active member of the Second Congregational Church of Winsted, singing in the choir, attending Men’s Bible Study and Prayer Breakfast. He also often visited veterans at the Berkshire Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in Sandisfield, MA alongside Jeff Liskin.Barry loved God’s Creation and being on the family farm. He could be found hauling rocks from the woods for his stone walls, planting his gardens, restoring his father’s barn or mowing paths through the fields for his grandsons to run freely and ride their toys. He was especially happy to spend a morning at the “Barkhamsted mall” searching for treasures. Barry loved his family and his church family but he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ most of all. We are comforted with the knowledge that we will be together with him in Heaven someday and maybe, just maybe, he’ll still be mowing fields, building stone walls, and tinkering in an old barn in the light of his Savior’s love.
