Barry Van Hussey, 55, of 156 Devonshire Drive, Ridgeway, VA died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at his home. He was born on November 30, 1954 in Martinsville, VA to Elizabeth “Libby” Sewell Hussey of Ridgeway, VA and the late W. L. “Red” Hussey, Sr. During his high school years, Barry was an all-star athlete in football, basketball, and baseball and received a scholarship for baseball to Guilford College in Greensboro NC. He later went on to receive his master’s degree in administration from the University of Virginia. Barry was a coach and physical education teacher at Drewey Mason High School and assistant principal at Richard H. Clark and Bassett Middle School. Barry was a member of several hunting clubs. He was also part-owner of Martinsville Glass Company. He was the associate pastor of Wellspring Christian Fellowship, Martinsville, VA formerly, Martinsville Christian Fellowship. Barry taught at Blue Ridge School of the Prophets, Rocky Mount, VA and made numerous trips to Africa on Missionary work. He was the director of the Mission Center and was a member of the Henry County Ministerial Association. He hosted the television and radio show, “On the Mark with Barry Hussey.” He was involved with numerous telethons and fundraisers. Surviving are his wife, Mary Carol Davidson Hussey of the home; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Hussey of Lynchburg, VA; son, Barry Van Hussey II and wife, Stephanie, of Mountain Top, PA; and brothers, W. Lee Hussey, Jr. and Les S. Hussey both of Martinsville, VA and Dana L. Hussey of Eden, NC. Barry was an inspiration and loved by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
