SALEM – Barry Scott Crowell, 55, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 22, 2018, under the care of the Mercy Health Hospice House in Boardman following an extended battle with cancer.
He was born July 9, 1963, in Salem, Ohio, the son of the late James E. and Jean (McMillan) Crowell, of Lisbon.
A 1981 graduate of David Anderson High School in Lisbon, Mr. Crowell earned an associate’s degree in business from Kent State University. He worked at Whan Construction, Nationwide Insurance and Crowell Construction before returning to Nationwide Insurance, where he completed 24 years, retiring as a commercial claims general adjuster.
He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, and was a youth soccer coach for many years. A skilled craftsman, he loved working with his children on home renovations. He also loved cooking and baking, and was happiest spending time with his family.
Mr. Crowell is survived by his wife, Marcilee (Moffett) Crowell, whom he married September 6, 1986; son Ryan S. and his wife Jayme (Detweiler), and their infant daughter, Fynlee Anne, of Canfield; daughter Lauren N. Crowell, of Boardman; two brothers, Roger, of Alliance; and Keith (Susan), of Lisbon; sister Dona (Jim) West, of Leetonia; father- and mother-in-law Gary and Wilma Moffett, and sister-in-law Melissa (Tim) Costa, both of Salem; brother-in-law Greg (Jessica) Moffett of Braselton, Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to personally thank the doctors, nurses and staff members for the care Barry received during his illness.
