Barbara T. Oakes
Newark – Barbara Theadate Oakes, 75, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, October 22, 2007 at Clifton Springs Hospital.
Family and friends may call Thursday (Oct. 25) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Norman L.
Barbara was born the daughter of the late Harvey and Alice Yoder Amidon on March 26, 1932 in Seneca Falls, New York. She was a 1950 graduate of Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls. Barbara and her husband John, have lived in Newark for 44 years. She loved to work in her yard and garden. Watching sports, basketball, football, baseball to name a few, on ESPN was a very good time for her. She especially enjoyed cheering on any team that played against the New York Yankees. Barbara enjoyed quiet time and listening to music. Her favorite colors were red and black which she wore often and decorated her home with. Barbara was a member of the Newark American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and she volunteered many hours at the Newark Elk’s Lodge.
Barbara will be remembered by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years John R. Oakes; children Carolyn Oakes (Steve) Townsend of NC, Brian of PA., Beth (David) Thomas of MD., John (Eve) of Manlius, Chris (Lisa) of Clifton Springs and Rebecca (Gordon) Smith of AZ.; six grandchildren Ian, Christina, Sarah,Laura, Katie and Derrick; brothers Jack Amidon of Seneca Falls, Harry (Patricia) Amidon of Waterloo; sisters Betty (Howard) Alcott of Seneca Falls and Margaret Ann (Douglas) Beach of CT.; many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was predeceased by her brothers Louis, Gordon, George and James; sisters Jean Olchowy and Alyce Erickson.
Internment: East Newark Cemetery
