Barbara Smith, 76, of New Castle, IN passed away on April 16, 2021, in a farming accident at her home in New Castle.
She was born on April 29, 1944, in Indianapolis, IN to George and Edith (Jackson) Wells. Barbara grew up in downtown Indianapolis and graduated from Arsenal Tech High School. On March 31, 1963, she married James Smith. She had worked as a supervisor at Guide Lamp in Anderson for 35 years. Barbara was a member of South Memorial Church of God in New Castle. She was a devoted follower of Christ, reading her Bible every morning. Barbara enjoyed boating and traveling, and spending summers at Lake Cumberland, KY. She also loved past trips to Alaska and Hawaii. One of Barbara’s passions was farming with her husband Jim and son Jason.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Edith and George Wells, and her sisters, Virginia Collins and Cathy Henderson. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, James Smith, New Castle; her son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Amy Smith, Shirley, IN; her brother, Art Wells, Indianapolis; and her brother-in-law, Ron Smith, Anderson, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
