It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Barbara Pernel Serra, who passed peacefully on Sunday January 3, 2016 at the age of 76. She was truly loved and will be missed by the many people whose lives she touched. She leaves behind her devoted husband Joseph Serra, loving daughters Laurel Nagle (Hal) and Lynne Lewis (Brian) and four beloved grandchildren, Kristen and Kathryn Nagle, Patrick and Ethan Lewis. She was predeceased by her first husband, Michael Serra and their son, Michael Serra, Jr. The eldest daughter of Victor and Stephanie (Dobrowski) Pernel, sister of the late Judith Accabo, Barbara was born on June 20, 1939 in New Haven, CT. She married Mickey in 1959 and spent many happy years with him in New Haven and Cheshire, CT creating their life and raising their family until Mickey’s passing in 1985. She remarried in 2001 to Joseph Serra and with him enjoyed long sunny days on the water and the warmth of Little River, South Carolina. Barbara and Joe recently relocated to Devon, PA to be closer to family. Regardless of where she lived, Barbara immersed herself in the joy of living life fully, meeting people and forging lasting friendships. Barbara was devoted to her family and friends and will be remembered for her unfailing optimism and strength, sage advice, delicious meals, and her ability to love so generously.
