Barbara (Coury) Gonsalves, 81, of Wethersfield and Westbrook, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 1, 2022, with her devoted husband George, and her family by her side, just shy of their 59th wedding anniversary. Barb was born on October 9, 1940, and was raised in the Litchfield area, graduating from East Litchfield High School in 1958. She met George at the age of 16 and they had a very special bond. They married in 1963, and in 1973 they settled in Newington to raise their family. Barb spent her working years building North East Promotions with her husband, while raising her children and volunteering for various organizations. Barb enjoyed a full life. She loved the beach, enjoyed entertaining, dancing, decorating, reading, shopping and playing bocce on Mondays and Mahjong on Thursdays. She was warm and generous and loved being surrounded by family and friends. Her home was always open and welcoming to all. She was remarkably sensitive and caring and we will forever miss the sweet and loving woman that she was.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, along with her beloved George, she leaves her son Joe Gonsalves of Newington, and her daughter Kristie Gonsalves of Canton. She was the best Nana to her five cherished granddaughters, Julia Mann and husband Chris of New Providence, NJ, Olivia Weyman and her husband Jeremy of Wethersfield, Sophia Gonsalves of Newington, Kiley and Katie Harrington of Canton; and to her great grandchildren Emma and Jeremy Weyman. She also leaves several nieces and nephews and her dear friends.
Her family would like to express its deepest appreciation for the exceptional care provided to Barb by the doctors and staff at the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center, Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice Care, and especially to Dr. Sope Olugbile.
