Barbara M. Derrie, age 72, of Wisconsin Rapids died Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Barbara was born March 30, 1950 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Robert and Jacqueline (Dennis) Derouin. She was raised in her grade school years in De Pere, Wisconsin attending St. Joseph’s Elementary School. In 1961 she moved with her family to Ashwaubenon and was a member of the first graduating class at Ashwaubenon High School in 1968. Barb’s first job was at Kmart by Lambeau Field that year. In 1969, she moved with her family to Wisconsin Rapids.
Barb married Chris Derrie April 16, 1977 at First English Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. They were blessed with two sons, Jonathan and Mark.
Barb spent most of her life working in the restaurant industry, starting with Sandy’s and Hardee’s in the early 1970’s. After taking time off to raise a family, Barb started her long tenure with Burger King in Wisconsin Rapids where she worked for 25 years becoming the breakfast manager and retiring in 2015. Barb came out of retirement to help her son in 2021, working a few hours at Arby’s in Wisconsin Rapids where she continued to work until her health began to decline.
Barb enjoyed bowling and golfing and liked collecting anything copper. She loved to spend time shopping with her family at local department stores. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her.
Barb is survived by her husband Chris, sons Jonathan and Mark, sister Janet (Gary) Pio, and brother-in-law, Michael (Lynn) Derrie all of Wisconsin Rapids; sister-in-law Kim (Robert) Whalen of Henderson, NV; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; father and mother-in-law Robert and Muriel Derrie; and borther-in-law Robert Derrie Jr.
