Barbara Louise Lipinski passed away quietly on the night of November 6, 2022, at a triumphant age of 96. She was born February 17, 1926, 7:45 am in Omaha, NE to Mildred Jane (nee ROBERTS) Burrell and Edward Robert Burrell and was the first of two children.

Barbara moved with her family to El Cajon, California when she was 14.

While attending Grossmont Union high School, she registered for Algebra II with a friend. On the first day, her teacher sent them to the principal’s office: “Girls don’t take advanced mathematics”. Despite this setback, or maybe as a result, she earned an A+ in Economics at San Diego State College. Barbara also worked a short time at New York Life. One day the manager asked her if she thought she “could handle taking payments” (all the men were in the War). She also worked one tax season for H & R Block. Later she achieved success in the stock market.

In September 1945 in San Diego, she married Roman John Lipinski; they spent 4 months in Bremerton, Washington after WWII before first settling in Chicago. Together they raised 7 children in Willow Springs and Hinsdale, Illinois. She moved with her husband to Albuquerque in 1986.

Besides the stock market, her interests included horses (Barbara and Roman were members of Cornwall Hounds in IL; Barbara was a member of Juan Tomas Hounds in NM), hiking, astrology, cards (she inherited her love of cards from her grandfather Emerson), classical music (she played piano and violin), travel (Egypt, India, China, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador’s Galapogos Islands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Japan, London, Italy, Spain, France, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica), and working with Rep. Giddy Dyer to convince the Illinois state legislature to ratify the ERA (Illinois did not ratify the ERA– Equal Rights Amendment).

She is survived by her sister, Molly Ann Sanger; her children Timothy Lipinski, Carolann Gerhard (John), Ronald Lipinski, Christiana Edwards, Robert Lipinski (Kimberly), Marybeth Perez-Soto (Jose Luis) and Eric Lipinski (Lana); grandchildren Robert Larkum, Shane Edwards, Valerie Lipinski (Dustin Allen), Christina Weller (Chris), Andrea Winstead (Tyler), Robert Lipinski (Jessica), John Lipinski, and Robin Lipinski; greatgrandchildren Owen and Lucy.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Roman, her granddaughter Kendra Lipinski, and daughter-in-law Therese Goetz. She will be missed by her family and friends in Albuquerque, who wish her Godspeed on this journey.
