Barbara Florimont left us so suddenly that it has her family, friends and community shaking their heads in disbelief. Barbara was a beautiful, kind and loving woman who cared deeply for her country, her community, her family and friends, but most unconditional was her love for her son Jim. She gave tirelessly to so many local organizations that they all loved her and will miss her.
Barbara worked for over 15 years for Providence House and was a strong advocate for victims of domestic violence. She was a board member for the Ocean County Board of Social Services, and a commissioner on the advisory commission on the status of women. She was appointed to the women’s commission in 2005, has served on the executive board since 2011, and was the chairperson 2013-2014. Barbara was a member of the County Women’s Health Month Committee and was a member of the county housing advisory committee in 2010 &2012, & the comprehensive emergency assistance committee (focused on homelessness and prevention) in 2010. She volunteered at the Hope Center a nonprofit organization that provides outreach to low income and homeless individuals and families.
She was a devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church. Barbara held very strong political ideals and was a current Trustee member, and Past-President of the Regular Republican Club of Lavallette; Corresponding Secretary of the Ocean County Federation of Republican Women; served many years on the Board of Governors for the New Jersey Federation of Republican Women; and an active member of the Ortley Moose Lodge #399 Order #1248. Of all her many accomplishments and achievements, Barbara was most proud of the fact that she attended college at the age of 50 and graduated with honors from Georgian Court College. Her legacy will continue on in the memories of her son Jim, her sister Linda , her brother Bill, her nieces and nephews and all her many dear friends and neighbors.
