Barbara June Edlen Newman, 71, a former Meredosia resident, died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Barton W. Stone Home in Jacksonville.
She was born Nov. 6, 1939, in Meredosia, the daughter of Robert and Lena Surratt Edlen. She married Wilbur M. Newman on Mar. 10, 1956, in Corinth, MS, and he preceded her in death on Apr. 26, 1992.
She is survived by two daughters, Vicki (Kevin) Barth and Gwen (Brian) Ruble, both of Meredosia; eight grandchildren, Kristel (Chad) Allen of Meredosia, Myranda (Zach) Staton of Versailles, Bryan Barth (fiancé Jaclyn Patty) of Springfield, Breanna Ruble of Meredosia, Deanna Ruble and Rachel Ruble, both of Meredosia, Heather (Jamie) Evans of Murrayville and Josh (Sarah) Newman of Jacksonville; six great-grandchildren; and one brother and three sisters. She was preceded in death by one son, Odean Lee Newman (surviving wife Linda of Jacksonville).
Mrs. Newman was the owner/operator of Edlen-Newman Fish Market in Meredosia for many years. She enjoyed going to yard sales.
