She was predeceased by her parents, Wellington and Olive Thompson, her brother, James Thompson, her husband, W. H. Milligan and her beloved dog, Abby.

Barbara worked in the early part of her life as an administrative assistance but spent most of her life volunteering in service to her community with North Alabama Crisis Center Helpline (serving 20 years) , Huntsville Assistance Program and as a Poll Worker. She was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church and served in a variety of positions throughout her 45 years.

Barbara was raised in Saginaw Michigan and moved several times following her husband to various job assignments but she called Huntsville/Meridianville, Al her home for most of her adult life. She was devoted to family and was always available to her sons supporting them from behind the scenes during their many activities growing up. She and her husband were strict with the boys and believed strongly in hard work and being a productive member of society. She moved her mother from Michigan when her health began to fail and cared for her until her death. She exhibited the same love and devotion to her husband, Bill, providing for all of his needs until his passing. She believed in community, in being a good neighbor and was the first to help in a time of need. She had many friends and never met a stranger. She kept in touch with her lifelong friend, Isabelle Fry, who she referred to as her the sister she never had.

The family wishes to give thanks for the care provided by the 3rd floor staff at Crestwood Hospital and Dr. Zaheer Khan and his staff. In the last weeks of her life she was tenderly cared for by for caregivers Tanya, Tverberg, Steve Russell, Brenda Griffin and Angela Williams. She stated that she felt love and care from them and that their presence was a great comfort to her. Thanks also to Rev. Kim Teehan  for your spiritual support.
