Barb Dickinson, 91, of Spirit Lake passed on Friday, December 10, 2021, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. Barbara Jean Dickinson was born on February 16, 1930, in Spirit Lake to Leslie Albertus and Leona Mae (Webber) Booton. Growing up in Spirit Lake, IA, she graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1948. In those younger years she loved to go rolling skating down at the park. After graduation she started working for the telephone company. Barb was first united in marriage to Ed Daly. To this union, two children were born, Ric and Steve Daly. She was later united in marriage to Dee Dickinson on November 9, 1954. To this union four children were born, Vicki, Jon, Dana and Rocky (David). She found time to belong to a local bowling league where she received a few “200 game pins”. In the early 60’s, the family moved to Alta, IA where she spent the years raising children and playing bridge while continuing her work as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell, retiring in 1975. When her children were out of the nest, she moved back to the Lakes Region, living in Milford, IA for a time and then back to Alta for several years before her last move to Spirit Lake, IA. In her free time, “Barbie”or sometimes “Boots” as her friends called her, loved going to the VFW. She would meet them on a regular basis, often helping with the weekly drawings, going to the potlucks, and sharing her winning tickets from playing the machines. She also enjoyed any trip to a casino to try her luck at the slots! Barb was active in the Red Hats Society for several years and was a lifetime member of the Women’s VFW Auxiliary and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Barb didn’t drive because of an eye condition developed in the mid-70’s but that never kept her down. She had many friends, family, and good hearted people to help her get to where she needed to be. Barb is survived by her children, Ric Daly of Eveleth, MN; Vicki (Don) Winchell of Crooks, SD; Jon (Maxine) Dickinson of Daleville, AL; Dana (Ken) Messerole of Fayetteville, NC; and Rocky (Cathy) Dickinson of San Francisco, CA; brother Leslie “Junior” Booton of Milford, IA; daughter-in-law Sharon Daly of Spencer, IA; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended relatives. All were loved and adored! Barb was preceded in death by her parents, son Steven Daly, brother Ronnie Booton, sister-in-law Enie Booton, sister Joanne Hansen and brother-in-law Wayne Hansen, and other close family and friends. Together again with love!
