Barbara J. “Barb” Robertson, 70, of 27794 Willard Road, died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2006) at Rosewood Terrace Nursing Facility, after an extended illness.
She was born April 6, 1936, in Jasper, Ala., to Wesley and Martha “Maude” (Marsh) Odom. She married Tommy G. Robertson in 1956, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
He survives at home, along with one son, Rayburn “Ray” Robertson of Elkhart; one daughter, Tammie J. (Benjamin J.) Ballge, also of Elkhart; four grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret, Fay and Martha, all of Jasper; three brothers, Wesley “W.M.” and John “J.D.” Odom, both of Jasper, and Jiles Odom of Manchester, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and David Odom; and two sisters, Carroll Jones and Dean Chapman.
Mrs. Robertson worked at Ideal Plating in Elkhart for more than 10 years in the early 1970s. Afterward, she became a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of all of her grandchildren. She attended the Word of Life Fellowship in Elkhart, and enjoyed professional wrestling and afternoon soap operas. She was an accomplished flower and vegetable gardener, a prolific canner, a great cook and devout traveler to Jasper, especially for the Thanksgiving holiday, to see her family.
