Barbara J. (Tackett) Meyers, 66, of Newington, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Hartford, daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Tighe) Tackett, she was a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Barbara graduated from Bulkeley High School, and was captain of the cheerleading squad. She kept in touch with many friends, and looked forward to class reunions. After graduating from CCSU, she earned her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Connecticut. Barbara worked at the UCONN School of Social Work as a Higher Education Administrator, and retired after decades of employment. Barbara enjoyed her retirement by traveling to her favorite places, and then settling in Key West. She was the kind of person who developed friendships wherever she went. A loving mother and nana, she leaves her two children, Conor Meyers of Newington and Elizabeth Malone and her husband Chad of Manchester, and the most recent love of her life, her grandson William Malone. She also leaves her siblings, Ann Fitch and her husband Clyde of ME, Maureen Bialosuknia of Bristol, James Tackett of New Haven, Thomas Tackett and his wife Diane of TX, and Gerard “Gerry” Tackett and his wife Josie of GA, her brother-in-law George Showman of GA and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her companion and best friend, William McCaffrey, her sister Frances “Franny” Showman of GA, her brother-in-law Wes Bialosuknia, and her beloved great aunt Sister Frances Tighe. Barb enjoyed planning parties, and could make any occasion a celebration. She always wanted everyone to have fun. No one could deny she was the life of the party, often getting everyone on the dance floor. She enjoyed dancing, live concerts, and many types of music. You could always hear her asking to “turn the music up!” She enjoyed to swim, and made sure every vacation destination had a beach nearby. She especially enjoyed summers in Watch Hill. She also loved camping, traveling and reading a good novel. Barbara bled blue for her UCONN Huskies and always enjoyed attending many of their games among other professional sporting events. Above all, she had a heart of gold as a caring, selfless mother, nana, sibling and family would like to thank the wonderful staff of CB2 at Hartford Hospital for their loving care.
