CHAPEL HILL Mrs. Barbara Gale Steckler, 75, of Chapel Hill, died on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.
Mrs. Steckler was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Samuel Wiseman and Ruth Thorner. She lived in Chapel Hill for the past 40 years. She was a Peace Corps volunteer in 1965 in rural Thailand. In Chapel Hill she worked for Orange County EMS as a paramedic for over 20 years, and also worked at UNC Hospitals as a training coordinator for advanced cardiac life support. After her retirement she volunteered with the Chapel Hill public schools teaching English to newly-arrived immigrant and refugee children. She loved to travel and she was an excellent cook. She will be remembered as a loving and selfless wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Allan Steckler; two sons, Tim Steckler and wife Laura Rockefeller, and Adam Steckler and wife Kathleen Collins; grandchildren, Caleb Steckler and Henry Steckler.
